The CALM Curriculum is designed to support self-regulation skills and strengthen students’ social emotional well-being, while increasing educators and parents’ knowledge and skills in supporting these areas. The CALM Curriculum© was developed over three years (2013-2015 in conjunction with a University of British Columbia Master of Education Project which provided the theoretical underpinnings, and canvased current evidence based international social emotional learning programs.
A collaborative iterative implementation process was used with educators, professionals and children, with pre and post data examined, as well as qualitative feedback to ensure feasibility, suitability and efficacy.
All elements of the framework are guided by developmental science, relational, attachment, self-regulation, and systems-leadership-theories, and prioritize authentic and sustainable outcomes, including SEL well-being (child and adult), responsive caregiving, and capacity building.
